DO IT YOURSELF
To fit your own heating system you only need a basic tool kit with a few special tools like, hole saws, large drill, mandrill, jig saw.
Most heater manufacturers supply ready made kits available through their dealer network or ourselves. These include the heater, fuel pump, exhaust, skin fitting, all wiring and switches, ducting "y" branches, outlets and clips.
The hard part comes when you try to find a route through with the ducting. Although the ducting is quite flexible, try to think that more bends = less flow. If you back the air up too much, then the flow at the other end of the ducting will suffer.
A route may not be too evident in the beginning but in 99% of all boats there is a route there somewhere. This is not too much of a problem with a water heater as you are only running small plastic pipes.
Other things to take into consideration is where to site the heater. Ideally it should be as out of the way as possible. For example - in the transom space of a yacht or the engine bay of a motor boat although this may not always be possible. The ducting should be run high up and outboard of any locker space, and in the case of a yacht the exhaust skin fitting must exit through the transom.
If you purchase your heater kit through us and you live within a 100 mile radius of the New Forest, we will meet you aboard your boat, survey it for you, show you a possible route for the ducting, work out the optimum ducting and outlet sizes, plus any additional parts you will need above and beyond the kit and explain any idiosyncrasies with fitting your particular heating system FREE. This offer can prove to be invaluable.
If you look at the chart below it will give you a rough idea what heater size may be required for your boat. Although this can vary depending on the layout and design of each individual boat.
